HX renew DMUK Membership for a fifth year

Fri Dec 2020

As we renew our DMUK membership for another year we wanted to take the chance to share why we lend our voice to the charity's campaign, and also what we do as a parking management company to uphold their values.

Disabled Motoring UK (DMUK) is a charity for disabled drivers, passengers and Blue Badge holders, wheelchair, scooter, and public transport users.  They work with the UK Government and build partnerships with businesses to improve independent living for disabled people. DMUK campaign on behalf of, and provide support to, drivers and passengers with a disability, representing their interests at both a local and national level to ensure that the views of the community are heard. Advice and guidance on all aspects of disabled motoring are readily available on their website, including information on the Blue Badge scheme, mobility scooter, and Personal Independence Payment queries.

The charity is not funded by the government and relies on members' subscription costs, generous fundraisers and donations. Their campaigns are used to highlight issues that affect all disabled motorists, including the issue of pavement parking, help for disabled drivers at fuel stations and pressure to ensure that car parks are made accessible for everyone. The DMUK Baywatch campaign, which has run every year since 2002, aims to reduce the abuse of disabled parking spots at UK supermarkets.

HX has been a corporate member of DMUK since 2014 and we fully support their values, which are reflected in the day-to-day fair and ethical practice on our nationwide managed car parks. We often use wardens to complement our intelligent ANPR systems in order to provide clients with a complete service. One of the many reasons we use wardens is to deter the misuse of disabled bays.

Disabled parking bay abuse is a growing problem that affects the lives of many disabled people. Our staff often get thanked for carrying out checks on disabled bays as these bays are very important to the quality of life for blue badge holders. For wardens, tact and diplomacy are two very important skills required in what can sometimes be a controversial business. All of our wardens are handpicked and meticulously trained to defuse confrontational situations and to recognise special needs and circumstances. We pride ourselves on our fair and ethical approach to parking and our team of wardens are there to help put an end to the misuse of disabled bays.

Our tailored solutions are provided to support compliance with the use of our client’s land. We believe that using a combination of ANPR technology and wardens is essential to reducing the abuse of disabled parking spots and help to improve independent living for drivers and passengers with a disability.
